So, for our "Tale of Two Gamers," I've decided it's time to "put up or shut up."
I've been thinking about building an ork army, on and off, for what seems like years.
With the latest version of the codex and all the sweet new models, I started gathering my wits to be the first guy in our gaming group with a brand new tide of green. Unfortunately (and at the same time, very fortunately) there's another guy in our gaming group - Shep - who has the uncanny ability to buy, build and paint a horde army over-night. Pow! he beat me to the punch and I went back to my Dark Angels to give them a little more TLC.
Enter - the new "Black Reach" box and Somnicide's "Tale of Two Gamers Challenge".
400 points per month. 1750 points of orks at the end of it all. Whew!
I'm not the fastest painter ever (read glacially slow), so getting an army full of boyz together was going to put that word "challenge" to good use. Nevertheless, here I am and here's month one:
20 choppa boyz (with a nob with bosspole and power klaw)
4 nobs (choppy with 'eavy armor)
1 warboss (with power klaw, 'eavy armor, attack squig, and a few other bits and bobs)
Total: 400pts
Since I have a warboss as my HQ choice, the nobs unit counts as Troops instead of Elites and I'm able to field a legal list of one HQ and two Troops. Nice!
Unlike Shep's shooty ork list, I want mine to be very choppy. I envision a tide of boyz swarming across the field, running on top of the bodies of their fellows in a blood-thirsty sprint to hack into their foes. Fail that, I'm thinking a thundering herd of battlewagons filled with boyz sounds kinda cool too.
In either case, the 20 choppa boyz in the initial mob makes a good test to see if I can handle the painting demands without taking on the full 30 boy bite right away.
Considering my first army (Deathwing) was only 24 models and it took about a year to complete, I've got my work cut out for me.
Anyway, 'ere we go!

The Bards of Rhiowyn
This is my DIY chapter which will be bike heavy - more on the fluff coming up at some point. Here is the first block I am painting.

The rules
The rules are simple for the Tale of Two Gamers and are heavily influenced by the White Dwarf article of the same name. We are each putting up 20 dollars (cause we are poor) and the winner gets the pot.
400 points per month which must go towards a legal 1750 point army. The first month the legal requirement is waived.
5 points painting done on time (the last day of each month starting in November)
3 points painting done one week late
1 point painting done one month late
Also, since it is a game, there are points to be had in gaming.
5 points for a win
3 points for a vp win on a draw
2 points for a vp loss on a draw
1 point for a loss
The first couple of months it will be from a best of three match up.
